In general

We are using the XSLT technology for many years now with great success in ABAP implementations. We use it for working with XML in ABAP and we are not using the DOM object model. Using XSLT instead of the DOM model allows us to shorten implementation time (up to factor 10!), creating superior architecture and well-structured programming, separation of program logic and data handling, achieving better performance and better maintenance of the whole implementation.
The basis is the XSLT processor, which is build in the kernel of SAP NetWeaver (ABAP). Beside the open standard XSLT it delivers the option to serialize and deserialize ABAP data into XML and vice versa. Contrary to popular belief, there is virtually no limitation for handling complex XML documents and in functionality in general.

The EPO XML Tool

From years of experience in customer projects using XSLT for XML data handling we wanted to have a XSLT editor directly in the SAP workbench. The advantage of the EPO XML Tool compared to external XSLT editors is that all developed XSLT's can be directly applied in ABAP programs. In other words, the serialization and deserialization of ABAP data can be immediately tested.
